Funded projects
2021-2022; Poverty Emergency in partnership with Keele University’s Institute for Social and Inclusion (KISI), Cheshire West and Cheshire Local Authority and Mondrem, we worked as a multi-disciplinary team of researchers and other experts such as those with lived experience of poverty; listening to people who experience poverty first-hand, and to policy makers and service deliverers, to understand how experience of poverty should shape policy and services.
2019-2021: Reimagining Creative Democracy (ReCreaDe). The focus of this project is on innovative pedagogies to create positive conditions for different forms of participation in educational contexts for those from communities that have been conventionally excluded from education and civic activities. 8 partner universities in Austria, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Sweden.
2019-2021: Artist Led-Learning in Higher Education (ALL). This project focuses on originality in educational tasks, closer collaboration between learners and artists, co-creation, embodied learning methods and integration of arts-based methods in HE. Seven partner universities in Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Italy, Norway, Portugal.
2016-2019 Beyond Text: arts-based research, assessment and evaluation. This project is concerned with finding ways to support practitioners and researchers to use the arts to conduct high quality research, assessment and evaluation through practice. https://www.chester.ac.uk/node/40087 7 partner universities and organisations in Estonia, Finland, Palestine, Spain. 2016-2019 RECAP was awarded two of the first doctoral British Council Higher Education Scholarships Palestine Project. Dr Fadel Al Sawayfa (2016-2019) and Dr Muayyad Al Waheidi made a significant contribution to our research environment. In addition to this 14 research visits by 9 academics took place between the University of Bethlehem, West Bank and RECAP enabled by all three funding sources/bodies in the period 2014-2019.
2014-2017 Inside out / Outside in – Building bridges in teacher education through encounters with diversity. (In-Out). This project addressed the question of diversity in the European classrooms by improving the provision of intercultural competence and understanding in pre- and in-service teacher education. 7 partner universities in Austria, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Spain, Sweden.
2013-2015 Drama Connecting People, (DCP). Focus on working with marginalised citizen groups though the pedagogical use of the arts forms of Drama and Theatre with partners in Germany, Estonia and Finland.
